Information System and Technology

Information Technology

-         any type of  knowledge that can be exchange and the information is always expressed by some of data

-         in general “data interpreted using its representation information yields information”

Information System

-         group of parts or things working together as whole

-         information working together as whole

Organization

Management -> analyse and decide on operation

Operation -> work done or process doing work

Information flows or moves towards vertically

Purpose Of Information system

-         operational – improve cost efficiency on work force

-         MIS – management information system that provide information to management help in making decision

Technology

-         scientific study and use of mechanical arts and applied sciences

-         application to practical tasks in industry

hence  IT is the tools to support the application of Information System

IT Hardware and Software

-         hardware is tools and equipment

-         software equipments

Basic Hardware – input ( keyboard, mouse),  output (monitor, printer), processor (Pentium), input/output devices ( storage like diskettes, floppy  disk drive or devices,  hard disk drives , CDROM, memory (Random Access Memory) ), adapter  (graphic card, network card)

“brain is to  think, memorize (process) and control” verses “computer to RAM , processor, controller”

Basic PC Component

PC Front Panel

-         power light , hard disk activity light, floppy disk drive, power button, CD-ROM drive

PC Rear Panel

-         power connector female, power connector male, CPU fan, keyboard and mouse connector,  speaker, headphone and microphone (multimedia function), D 15 pin female connector for VGA, D 25 pin female connector printer, D 9 pin male connector for serial connection, USB (universal serial bus) for USM devices, LAN port (8pin)  and Modem port (4 pin)

Printer

-         output devices

-         dot matrix (impact ) 9 pin and 24 pin, bubble/ink jet, laser

Software Category

-         Operating System

-         software to manage computer hardware resources such as memory, storage , printer

-         to manage interaction with human

-         Application System

-         software to be used to support Information System functionality

Data Storage

-         storage (floppy disk, hard disk, CDROM, tape) is to store data in the form of magnetic dot (1 bit each dot)

-         drive is the device to read or write the data to or from storage (I/O)

-         data storage access type – direct access or serial access

-         data can be a program or a data for  program

Networking

-         a group of intelligent thing connected and communicate with a set of standard protocol to share resources available in group

-         eg restaurant network, telephone network

-         consist of interconnection and intercommunication

Interconnectivity

-         cables, connector

-         signal

-         medium

Intercommunication

-         convey message correctly

-         receive massage and translate correctly

-         we need standard protocol

Standard Network Protocol

Usage of Network

-         use for certain application

Computer Netwroking

-         share resources eg printers, modem

-         communicate between station eg e-mail, file transfer, send messages

Shared Resources

-         computer which give services is server, computer who used service is called a client or workstation

Peer to Peer Network

-         normally used for small workgroup

-         minimal security and system control

Server Base network

-         network which server gives services to client

-         centralize access control and better security

-         use in big set-up

Standards

-         need implementation to ensure interconnectivity and intercommunication

-         uses ISO

Internet

-         is the network of network

-         computer connected to the internet able to access available information all over the world

How To Implement Information System

-         require skill worker, those who know how to use IT as a tools

-         where to get it eg higher learning institution, internal/external training program, out source

Development of Information Technology

Interactive Multimedia

-         separated tools has been used for different purposes

-         allow manipulation of multimedia content such as text, graphic, animation, movie/clip, image

-         interactive mean, man able to communicate with the multimedia program for the purpose for visualizing

if you do not have support from the top then it is very much difficult to work out

Development of IT

 Human Computer Interaction (HCI)

-         command line

-         graphical user interface

-         virtual reality

 Microminiaturization

-         everybody putting it to small , like smaller handphone, PDA

Wireless Network

-         multi drop cable

-         star topology cabling – require hub and NIC

-         wireless network

-         require access point and NIC

-         enter into area and you get connected
